Building your sales brand
Just like the Apples and Nike’s of this world brand is everything, and if you are looking to build a successful sales career then you need to build your brand. In days gone past one could move cities and start fresh but in this day and age of social media and social networking your networks, experience and your brand can be spread around the world. With the law of 6 degrees of separation it doesn’t take much for word to spread.
A brand in marketing is everything and in sales a bad brand is absolutely nothing. So how does on going about building a strong brand? For a start being professional and respectful in all your dealings with all stakeholders is the beginning. Suppliers, customers and internal support staff all should be looked after often you will find today’s acquaintance is tomorrow hot prospect and customer. Often throughout my career I have also dealt with the same customers of multiple roles in my sales career.
The reason these customers continue to purchase from me is they know, they trust and they believe that I can solve their problems. Now a lot of this is of course due to my sales skills but continued long term customers only comes by looking after each customer in these different roles and never selling a client a product of service that they do not need or that will not benefit there business. Without this important aspect of the sales process you will quickly destroy your brand, and when you recall on customers in different roles with a brand that is damaged you will have a massive up hill task!
Look after your customers, create lasting relationships and help them to build their business and you will find you will have loyal long lasting clients. Clients that trust your brand spread the word and will help you build further and deeper networks making the transition into new roles easier and ultimately lead to more opportunities. With nearly all sales professional’s moving roles in their career you can be assured that you will need a strong brand, when the time comes to move on building a brand is too late it needs to be done today as like with Apple and Nike the longer your on top the stronger your brand will become.
